Explore the wide repertoire of the Irish tradition:
The music of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century harpers, the "slow airs,” songs, and dance tunes - with particular reference to the special rhythms and phrasing characteristic of the tradition. You will:
• Learn specific fingering techniques to create the authentic playing of these styles.
• Learn approaches to accompaniment that are most appropriate.
• And learn some beautiful tunes!
Multi-faceted learning:
The rhythms of this music cannot be written with classical notation. Written music will be available as we learn, but you will primarily learn the melody line part by ear and by imitation. This allows you to get the authentic nuances that make this music so beautiful. Feel free to bring a recording device, too.
Universal benefits applicable to all your playing:
• Listening with your “inner ear.”
• Getting to the soul of a tune.
• Phrasing and melodic line.
• What to hold in your mind mentally to make your music emotional
• How to streamline your practice sessions.
• Solutions to postural issues and common ergonomic problems.
• Learning to relax, and the relationship of relaxation with tone.
• Warm-ups and exercises - what’s the difference?
• Musical ‘giving’ and the power of heartfelt performance.
• And releasing YOUR personal creativity and heighten the joy of playing!
We may never be able to afford Maire
(pronounced “Moyra”) again.
Fifteen of you can take advantage of her now,
and it will change your approach to your harp forever. Study with the Irish master!
