Southeastern Harp Weekend
Lodging
On campus, you reserve lodging through our on-line registration. Lodging choices are on a first-come-basis. We have listed hotels and a B&B close by for folks who want single rooms, or when Lutheridge fills.
Thornburg
Imagine something like a big harper's sleepover!
Yes, our meeting rooms with large stone fireplaces, and meals in the dining hall (a good chef and low cost), and lots of fresh mountain air. Hear the fall leaves crunching underfoot in the woods, and harps singing in a lunch-time jam session.
Limits on Lodging for "Companion Pass" attendees:
Every year many people bring companions to the Southeastern Harp Weekend. We welcome it! It does set up a challenge for lodging because Lutheridge only has capacity for 130 people to stay overnight, and we want to give preference to harpers. Solution: We allow some "Companion Pass" holders on site, if they would like to volunteer (see below).
But at some point we may cut off lodging for Companion Pass folks to make preference for harpers. People understood this last year and there are some really nice places to stay just a hop skip and a jump away. Thanks for your understanding!
Opportunities for companions to volunteer:
•Take harps up and down stairs at Efird
•Drive golf carts as "free harp taxis" (outgoing personality good for this one)
•Look after the needs of a classroom (and see the workshops!)
•Collect meal tickets at meals & help vendors in vendor hall
•Sell presenter CD’s and sheet music in vendor hall
•For an excellent photographer only: take photos of spontaneous action

DESCRIPTIONS OF EACH LODGE:
________________
Thornburg Hall:
A two-story dormitory-style lodge with 35 rooms. All rooms contain an assortment of double and single beds. Most are suites with connecting baths, (one bath for two rooms; you also have a sink in your own room). Four rooms have private baths.
Two meeting rooms good for jam sessions until 10:00. This is a fun and popular place -- you'll meet new people and make new friends yet have your own space as well. It is only 250 paces from class sites. If you have problems walking up a slight incline, take advantage of the free “Harp Taxis” zooming around. You are right next to the vendor hall…. Yum.
Thornburg brings back good memories of the unpretentious beach houses and lake vacation houses of your childhood! We can hook you up with compatible roommates if requested.
________________
Kohnjoy Inn:
A motel-like facility with 16 individually heated and air conditioned guest rooms. Fourteen rooms have two double beds, desk, chairs and private baths. Two are handicapped rooms with one double bed and one single bed.
Of all the lodging at Lutheridge, Kohnjoy is the closest to the harp workshop rooms (but farther from the vendor hall than Thornburg.) We can hook you up with compatible roommates if requested.
________________
Carla or H&H Cottages:
If you like the idea of living with a few other harpers in a fresh and cozy cottage, and being able to fix and eat breakfast (or any meal) at your abode, here you are. Carla and H&H cottages each have three rooms. Each room has 2 double beds and a bunk bed on top.
Living/dining room has a fireplace, and is good for hanging out and small jam sessions. Kitchen has stove and refrigerator. Bring your own utensils, cups and pots, etc. Only 250 paces from class sites. If you sign up by yourself, we will add compatible roommate to your room. Photos here. Private bath per room. These cabins are one of the most fun places to stay.
________________
Lakeside Cabins:
The six Lakeside cabins each have two rooms. Each of the rooms has a private bathroom with a shower. You can have just two in your room or as many as four. Some beds are double beds. There are two single bunk beds in the room. All cabins, furnishings, and mattresses are five years old.
Each Lakeside cabin has a living room with a kitchenette, small refrigerator and microwave, dining table and sofa. Bring your own utensils, cups and pots, etc. These cabins are farther away from the workshop areas and are very quiet. If it's nice weather, it's pleasant to leave your harp in the workshop room overnight and walk through the woods to the activities in the morning -- a five-minute walk. Otherwise you drive the one-minute drive (hopefully carpooling with your cabin mates to conserve parking space.) You can drive to your cottage to unload and then take your car to a small parking area for these cabins. Private bath per room. Click here for details.
________________
Beam Cottage:
A centrally heated older cottage with convenient parking. Two sleeping rooms containing five sets of single bunk beds each. Using only the bottom beds, we will house 4 people in each of the two rooms, or more if you have a ready-made group. Or you can register by yourself and have surprise roommates, making new friends. There is a central living room/dining room with a fireplace for hanging out and jamming.
There is also one private single room in Beam cottage.
PROS at Beam: You can pull your car right up to the cottage to unload your goodies, and you can conveniently park your car there. There is a kitchen with full refrigerator, electric stove, coffee maker, microwave, sink. Bring your own utensils, cups and pots. For each big room, there's a bathroom with two shower stalls, sinks, and toilets. And lastly, it’s cheap!
CONS at Beam: The mattresses are not posh but they are supportive. There are no box springs; as you can see in the photograph, the mattresses are covered with vinyl. You may want to bring a blanket to put between your sheet and the mattress to make it softer.
This is the perfect building for those who want to bring back memories of the '50's and '60's and stay really inexpensively but park close to their lodge. For pictures click here.

PRE-ARRANGED ROOM MATES: TO GET IN THE SAME ROOM:
Since the registration system cannot “save” a bed space without payment, it’s important to get your harper friend to sign up as quickly as possible.
If all bed spaces for your lodge have been purchased by the time your friend starts to register, s/he will see that there are no slots left.
No problem; the two of you can select another lodge that still has space.
You don’t need to contact us; it’s MUCH (much!) quicker for you to go back into your registration yourself, to change your lodging.
If you switch to a less expensive lodge, you’ll get the difference refunded within 72 hours.

“I LOVE Lutheridge.
Staying here is the icing on the cake; very inspiring, more so than staying & learning at a hotel. Soaking in the atmosphere, you can't help but get swept away.”
