Double Strung Harp Models

Below is info on three different harp models, Lorraine, Eve and Brittany.  Happy harping! Carolyn Deal

The Lorraine is easy on my hands; light string tension.

Everyone is blown away with the sound. It’s lush, and so easy to sound FABULOUS on this harp.  The doubling effect gives the illusion of greatness.  You can hear this harp on my YouTube tutorials.

Detachable base is quick to remove.  And it comes in 6” or 8” heights.

Not tippy at all, very solid-footed.  Safe around my grand daughter and dog.

Light to carry to my car, easy fit because base detaches.  I have even transported two harps and a dog in my small Prius.  One harp fits in the front seat!

Gothic shape.   I love this shape and you don't see it often.

(It also makes the bass strings long, which causes a stunning sound.)

Easy on my body.  It’s a floor harp; tilts back lightly on shoulder.

Comfortable to reach around because it is narrow at the top.

Perfect, perfect range.  That low octave is WOW.  Going any lower than the low G would be overkill for the complex overtones of the double.  That’s just my opinion.  To me, the Lorraine is the perfect double harp; its range achieves everything while keeping the harp from being bulky or heavy.

Comes in Walnut or Cherry.  (Curly maple is available for a very short time).

Easy to learn.  Free tutorials on line.  (I wonder who makes those?)  Go to YouTube and search “Double Strung Harp Tutorial.”

Eve 22 x 2

Brittany 22 x 2

Lorraine 29 x 2

Small but MUCH more “playing power” than normal lap harps – or even 26 string harps.  I always thought 22 string lap harps were pretty useless.  But it is TOTALLY different when you double the strings.   You have three octaves, in each hand.  The harp has 44 strings, packed into a little lap-harp size. You simply bring your left hand up an octave to play the four lower notes you would play on a 26 string harp.  And the glittery sound gives you so much more beauty and interest.

The tone is sweet and rich. Look on YouTube at Jo Morrison playing The Ashgrove in a huge church... amazing.  Listen with headphones if you can.  As with all double strung harps, the doubling effect gives the illusion of greatness and that glittery sound.  This harp even sounds great at the top.

Wonderful for therapy; warm creamy tone. This harp is warmer in tone than the Eve, very therapeutic; Eve is also therapeutic, but in a more glittery way.

For lots of sound examples, see my YouTube video “Brittany Double Strung Lap Harp Demo.”  It is a good sound quality representation. The sound sample on the Stoney End website sounds nothing like the harp, so please watch the tutorial instead - preferably with headphones.

Super fun to take places; ADORABLE.  In it’s case, it looks like a bowling bag!  (Well, a little larger). Take it with you anywhere for “Random Acts of Harping.”  It’s a conversation-starter anywhere you go.  I love playing outdoors.

You can afford this harp: $1049 to $2150 depending on levers.

Harmonics! Each string vibrates it’s equal “sister” on the next row, so there is a richness you can’t get on a small single strung harp.

Easier to hold ergonomically than other small harps. Small harps are harder to hold than a floor harp (which is stable on the floor and just tips back lightly on the shoulder).  But the Brittany is different, much easier than most small harps.

Much much much more comfortable than a 26-string therapy harp.  Because of it’s short profile, Brittany is perfectly ergonomic if you place it on a harp bench between your legs (straddle the bench like a horse).

Another option where you don’t need a harp bench: When you buy this harp from me, I include a pretty lap harp board to match your harp ($35 retail value).  You sit on it and put the harp on it between your legs.  (You cannot do this with a 26 string single harp because it makes it too high).  There is a lip at the front of the board so the harp cannot slip off.

Traditional Celtic shape inspired by the Brian Boru historic harp.  I love this shape and you don't see it often.  See it in my YouTube video “Brittany” Double Strung Harp Demo and the photo above.

It’s got a slightly wider string spacing than the Eve; and a little more string tension. That makes it a teensy bit easier to play for a novice since you don’t need to be as “accurate.” Or if you have large hands it’s good.  A novice might find it a teensy bit easier to see the strings than on the Eve because the strings are fatter.  But even non-harpers start on either harp and do fine.

Perfect, perfect range. The lowest note is a G. It’s a note you use often in the key of C because it’s the dominant of the C scale.

Comes in Walnut or Cherry. (Curly maple is available for a short time).

Carolyn’s special “Lady Godiva” option. I asked Gary Stone to make this for my customers. Suddenly you can play beautiful Olde English music, Medieval, and some Shakespearean, even Jewish . This configuration has one extra lever: the G above middle C on the right hand. Add $18 for a Loveland or $25 for a Truitt.

All of Suzanne Guldimann’s great lap harp books have some tunes using the right hand G#.  For a fully levered harp you already have this string, of course.  I also include a free book of tunes I arranged and composed for this.

Easy to learn. Free tutorials on line! (I wonder who makes those?) You can do all the tricks on the tutorials, some tunes exactly as is, and some with your left hand up an octave.

See Levers Advice page for various lever options.  I have another lever option idea that allows you to play Middle Eastern sounds; ask me.

Free Perks:
